Claim Payments No Longer Include Public Adjusters
07.10.25

According to Citizens’ payment guidelines, claim payments must be issued directly to the named insured unless a third party is legally entitled to receive funds on their behalf. Examples of legally entitled third parties include but are not limited to:

  • Court-appointed guardians
  • Mortgage companies
  • Estate representatives (with proper documentation)

Public adjusters do not meet the criteria of a legally entitled third party and, therefore, must not be included as payees on any claim checks.

Agents must ensure that public adjusters are not added to policies as any of the following:

  • Additional Interest
  • Additional Insured
  • Loss Payee

Note: Attempting to include a public adjuster on a policy will result in a referral to Agent Compliance.
