Application Updates and FIGA Policyholder Affirmation Form
12.13.23

As previously announced in the June 30, 2023, Personal Lines Bulletin, an application for coverage cannot be denied solely because of unrepaired damage caused by a covered loss that is the subject of a Florida Insurance Guaranty Association (FIGA) claim. This provision is applicable until the earlier of 24 months after the date FIGA began servicing the claim or FIGA closes the claim. As a result, the application has been updated. This change will be effective for all Personal Lines new business on or after January 15, 2024.

Policyholder Affirmation Form

A required document will trigger when the FIGA-related eligibility questions are answered Yes on the application indicating the applicant has a FIGA-related claim. Applicants will be required to sign the Policyholder Affirmation Regarding FIGA Claims form. This form confirms that the applicant understands that Citizens policies do not cover damage that occurred before policy inception and requires a detailed description of the unrepaired damage and photos.

Note: The Policyholder Affirmation Regarding FIGA Claims form can be signed electronically.
