Agent Self‑Service: Effective Date Updates
06.18.26

Agents now have greater self‑service flexibility in PolicyCenter®, including the ability to adjust initial effective dates on bound risks without submitting a request via an activity to Underwriting. This enhancement gives you more control and helps you keep policies aligned when customer timelines shift due to real estate closing dates that move unexpectedly.

Effective date changes can now be approved by agents, allowing for:

  • Improved cycle times
  • Improved agent satisfaction through expanded self‑service capabilities
  • Immediate alignment with updated closing schedules

Previously, Underwriters processed all effective date change requests manually. The new enhancement allows agents to make most updates directly in PolicyCenter within these system‑enforced boundaries:

  • Effective dates cannot be backdated.
  • Each extension can be made in increments of up to 15 days.
  • Requests for effective date changes cannot exceed 45 days from the Original Effective Date.
  • Effective dates cannot be changed when there is an existing claim or if a claim is received on a bound policy with an unapproved status.

Note: These changes do not apply to unbound policies.

For additional guidelines on when an effective date change is allowed, please review the updated Creating an Effective Date Change Request job aid.
