Citizens Revamps Board of Governors Meeting Schedule

September 15, 2017 - Tallahassee

Citizens Property Insurance Corporation’s Board of Governors will convene September 27 by conference call for updates on Hurricane Irma recovery efforts and to conduct necessary business.

Committee meetings and an in-person meeting of the nine-member board scheduled for September 26-27 in Maitland have been cancelled to allow Citizens staff to focus attention on Hurricane Irma.

Instead, the board will convene via teleconference at 9 a.m. on September 27, for Hurricane Irma updates. The one-hour meeting will also include an abbreviated agenda to conduct previously noticed business.

“Our policyholders are our immediate and top priority right now,” said Chris Gardner, Chairman of Citizens Board of Governors. “We want all of our resources dedicated to helping our customers recover from Hurricane Irma as quickly as possible.”

Toll-free access to the board meeting is available by calling:

  • 1.888.942.8686
  • Participant Code: 574 373 5657#

Citizens’ Board of Governors met September 6, 2017, to approve an emergency authorization that allows the state’s insurer of last resort to respond more quickly to Hurricane Irma. The authorization gives Citizens staff more authority to enter contracts and make purchases of goods and services to prepare for and respond to Irma.

The emergency action mirrors an executive order signed last week by Florida Governor Rick Scott that gave state agencies broad discretion and flexibility in responding to Irma.

Citizens representatives are available 24/7 throughout the weekend to handle claims calls at 1.866.411.2742. More information can be found on Citizens website.
